01 · The bookmaker
Australia has fewer bookmakers every year
Australia has a lot of online bookmakers on paper. In practice a handful of large ones take most of the money. The mid-sized ones keep getting bought.
TopSport was one of the mid-sized ones. It had its own customers and its own following. It did not have the scale to fight the big names on advertising.
The buyer was BlueBet Holdings Ltd, a company listed on the Australian stock exchange. BlueBet had itself already changed name. In 2024 it bought the Betr wagering business from Matthew Tripp. It then took the Betr name for its customers. Its own BlueBet brand was retired.
So Betr has now absorbed two Australian betting brands in about a year. Its own former name, and TopSport.
02 · The takeover
Announced in February, done by April
The deal was announced in February 2025 and completed on 1 April 2025.
The price was 1.5 million Australian dollars on completion. The TopSport owner also got 8.8 million shares. Up to 23 million more options depended on performance.
TopSport chief executive Tristan Merlehan did not leave. He joined BlueBet as chief trading officer. That is usually a sign of an agreed sale rather than a rescue.
This was not a failure. Nobody went bust and no regulator was involved. A smaller bookmaker sold to a bigger one.
03 · The money
Balances and pending bets moved across
This is the part that matters and TopSport handled it well.
The migration happened overnight in one cutover. The company said over 63 million rows of customer data were moved securely. That included transactional data, pending bets and account balances.
Pending bets are the detail worth noticing. If you had a long-term bet running, it went across with you rather than being cancelled. Plenty of closures in this archive simply void those.
We found no complaints from TopSport customers about the move.
We could not load the old TopSport address ourselves. Three attempts on 10 September 2026 all failed before any page came back. So we cannot tell you what is there now, and we are not going to guess.
Betr now holds those accounts. Anyone who thinks a TopSport balance never arrived should contact Betr first. If that fails, go to the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission.

How we verified this record
Every claim on this page is graded by how firmly we could check it. Confirmed means we saw it in the operator’s own notice or in a document that cannot easily be faked. Observed means we saw it ourselves on the live site or domain on the date given. Unconfirmed means it has been reported but we could not prove it.
05 · The questions
TopSport – the questions still open
Q. What happened to TopSport?
It was bought by BlueBet Holdings and retired as a brand. The deal completed on 1 April 2025 and customers were moved to Betr.
Q. Did I lose my balance?
No. The company says account balances and pending bets were moved across in the migration.
Q. What about bets that had not settled?
They moved with the account rather than being cancelled.
Q. Where do I log in now?
Betr, which holds the accounts that came from TopSport.
Q. Did TopSport go bust?
No. It was an agreed sale to a larger company, and its chief executive joined the buyer.
Q. Who do I complain to if money is missing?
Contact Betr first. If that gets you nowhere, the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission licenses Australian corporate bookmakers.
