Unibet is a large European betting brand owned by Kindred Group. It closed its Italian site on 10 November 2025. It did not fail and it was not punished. Italy changed the rules and made licences much more expensive, so Kindred chose not to buy one. Italian players and their balances were moved to another company, Codere.

01 · The change

Italy made licences cost seven million euros

In 2025 Italy rebuilt its online gambling rules. The old licences ran out and everyone had to bid for new ones.

The new price was seven million euros for a nine year licence. Italy also banned the practice of running lots of small brand names under one licence. It also made every operator move to a single web address by 13 November 2025.

For a big operator that is a cost. For a small one it is the end. Trade press in Italy reports that around 350 small sites closed because of this change. It also reports that roughly 199 named Italian betting brands disappeared from the market.

Unibet was not a small site. Kindred simply decided Italy was not worth seven million euros plus the new compliance costs.

02 · The shutdown

Closed three days before the deadline

Unibet Italy closed on 10 November 2025. The single web address rule took effect on 13 November 2025. So it went three days before it had to.

The reason Kindred gave was the new regime. Stricter compliance rules, higher standards for the technology, and the seven million euro cost of a nine year licence.

This is a market exit, not a collapse. Unibet still trades in other countries. Only the Italian site closed.

03 · The money

Balances moved to Codere

This is one of the better outcomes in this archive, and Italy deserves some credit for it.

Italian Unibet players were not told to withdraw and get out. They were moved to Codere Italia S.p.A., which holds Italian licence number 16018.

We loaded the old Unibet Italy address on 10 September 2026. It is still up, and it is now a notice explaining the move. In Italian it says the balance, the details and all the conditions stay unchanged. It also says players will find their balance and can carry on playing without a break.

It tells players to log in at Codere using their email address, with their Italian tax code as the password.

We could not find any complaints about the move. We also cannot confirm every balance arrived. A transfer between two companies can go wrong for a person who had an unusual account or an unfinished identity check. Nobody publishes those numbers.

If your casino is bought or merged into another one, the old site usually keeps a notice up for a while. It explains where to log in. Read it before you assume the money is gone.

How we verified this record

Every claim on this page is graded by how firmly we could check it. Confirmed means we saw it in the operator’s own notice or in a document that cannot easily be faked. Observed means we saw it ourselves on the live site or domain on the date given. Unconfirmed means it has been reported but we could not prove it.

What we checked, and what we did not. We loaded the old Unibet Italy address ourselves on 10 September 2026 and read the migration notice in full, including the Codere licence number and the login instructions. We took the closing date and the stated reason from an industry report on the Italian market change, and cross-checked the wider rule change, the seven million euro licence cost and the 13 November 2025 single-address deadline across several Italian trade outlets. We searched for complaints about the transfer and found none. We did not contact Kindred Group or Codere. Last independently checked: 10 September 2026.
